Position: Senior Oracle DBA
Location: Atlanta, GA
Duration: 6 Months +
Description:
Senior level database administration position involving management of multiple Oracle databases in a highly dynamic environment. Provide advanced technical expertise to a team in support of operational and project
activities related to clients business systems. Provide advanced technical and operational support to other departments and teams in support of clients business objectives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Understand and apply advanced database administration, management and performance tuning techniques
Provide technical advice and expertise to less senior staff members
Provide 24x7 on call support as part of a scheduled rotation with other team members
Provide advanced technical troubleshooting for applications and database systems with emphasis on root cause analysis
Participate in design and application review sessions, assist with definition of computing standards and recommend policies related to those standards
Configure and tune hardware and software to insure optimum performance and resource utilization
Understand server clustering techniques and the impact on database configuration and performance
Develop advanced shell scripts, SQL and PL/SQL scripts in support of database operations
Manage Data Guard databases, snapshots and other advanced database features.
Manage Real Application Clusters (RAC)
Enforce Security policies and procedures on databases
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
Write and maintain documentation describing changes and modifications to all systems and databases
Participate in meetings and conference calls related to project and troubleshooting activities
Perform exports, backups, restores, refreshes and data extracts as required
Research solutions to various business and technical problems, evaluate alternatives and be able to present recommendations and justifications to management
Provide mentoring to fellow database administrators, systems programmers and others
Act as technical liaison in support for database related project activities
Develop strong working knowledge of key applications and their interaction with the database(s)
Position Requirements
Functional/Technical Skills:
Previous experience in an IBM-AIX, HP-UX and Sun Solaris Oracle environment
High degree of skill with database commands and utilities such as exp, imp, sql loader, expdp, impdp, etc
Very good knowledge on Oracle memory structures, Backup & recovery Concepts, Performance Tuning, Grid Control, Data Guard and Oracle Network Concepts.
Advanced knowledge of database administration tasks such as backups, database recovery, TTS, tablespace additions, security, etc.
Advanced installation and configuration experience
Strong knowledge of RAC and Data Guard setup
Ability to write, debug and tune sql and pl/sql, packages, procedures, functions, triggers, etc.
Experience with database monitoring and tuning tools such as OEM
Solid experience with the Unix operating system and command set as well as competence with shell scripting
Thorough knowledge of physical and logical disk systems and their impact on database performance
Experience with server and database clustering techniques and the performance impacts thereof=20
Experience:
Five to ten years in an IBM-AIX, HP-UX and Sun Solaris environment,
Five to ten years as a database administrator working with Oracle
Experience in a large, 24x7 environment
Experience with multi-terabyte databases
Experience with Veritas Storage Foundations products
Experience with telephony billing systems and related applications a big plus
