This article is only relevant to students who just graduated and entered the IT consultancy world. Disclaimer: I am in no way an expert on this subject, the points listed here are from my experiences and should be used as a guidance tool.
1. Preparation is the key to having success in a telephonic interview. You should understand that the more you are prepared, the more confident you will be during the interview.
2. The goal is to impress the interviewer and that’s it. You should not worry about other factors like how many people you are competing with or how hard the questions will be.
3. Please speak slowly and clearly, don’t try to fake an American accent. It will not help. The focus should be on the subject.
4. Talk to the vendor before hand on the requirements of the client and prepare only on the requirement, since the client only wants a person who suits his requirement.
5. At the beginning of the call greet the interviewer and at the end of the call, thank him for giving you an opportunity or something on that lines.
6. If you don’t know an answer, just say you can’t recollect it right now instead of saying a blunt no for an answer.
7. During the preparation speak to your senior consultants and get an idea of how you should speak and prepare and they will be always be willing to help.
8. Always schedule the interview at a time when you are most active and try to take the last slot available, trust me on this one
